White Mountain Winter Engagement Session

White Mountain Winter Engagement Session Couple playing Fetch with their Dog on frozen lake

Planning a White Mountain Winter Engagement Session is the ultimate way to celebrate your love story in a snow-covered wonderland. Monika and Sebastian, along with their playful pup Koda, embraced the cold to create a day full of laughter, snow angels, and hot cocoa. Here’s how we captured their magical winter adventure—and how you can plan your own engagement session in the stunning White Mountains.

Why Choose the White Mountains for a Winter Engagement Session?

The White Mountains in winter are a photographer’s dream. From frozen lakes and sparkling fields to panoramic mountain views, every location feels like a snow globe come to life. Winter also brings a cozy, intimate vibe that’s perfect for capturing genuine, heartfelt moments.

Monika and Sebastian’s session is a testament to how magical winter can be. They explored a frozen lake surrounded by towering evergreens, played fetch with Koda, snuggled up with some hot cocoa, and even made snow angels in a field. Their session was equal parts romantic and adventurous—the perfect recipe for unforgettable photos.

Tips for a Perfect White Mountain Winter Engagement Session

Winter engagement sessions are undeniably beautiful, but staying warm is key to enjoying the day. Here’s how you can stay warm and make the most of your White Mountain Winter Engagement Session:

  1. Layer like a pro

Start with warm base layers. You can wear fleece lined leggings under pants or a dress. (Pro tip if you can see your legs at all go for nude colored leggings.) Thermal shirts under a long sleeve or sweater. And of course the all time best socks out there to keep your toes warm Darn Tough.

  2. Choose Stylish but Functional Outerwear

Add cute scarfs, shawls, or mittens to stay warm but also add fun accessories. Big cozy sweaters are also great for this!

  3. Foot wear is key

If you're anything like met, my feet are always the first thing to get cold. Wool socks are the best to keep your toes nice and warm. Choose the insulated boots! There are so many warm and cute ones to choose from.

  4. Always bring the Hand Warmers

Okay, these are always something I think "I won't be that cold" when planning, but in the moment of need, I am always SO happy I brought them! You can easily keep these in your pocked to warm up your hands!

  5. Bring blankets and hot drinks

I couldn't think of a better winter engagement prop if I'm being honest! – Pro tip, bring a jet boil and make hot cocoa or coffee as part of your session. This gives you cute variety and something to do together.

  6. Move around to stay warm

Movement in photos always looks more natural and creates playful, authentic moments. I always give movement prompts during engagement session, but it's such a game change to keep your warm in the winter. Pro tip – Make a mood board of what you would like your engagement sessions photos to look like or take inspiration from, and talk about this with your photographer. This is such a great way to set expectations and talk through how to get photos like your inspiration naturally.

  7. Bringing the Dogs

If you plan to bring your dog on a cold winter engagement session, it is just as important to plan to keep them warm too. Bring a coat for them to wear, maybe booties if this is something you have and they tolerate. Bring a friend or family member that can be on dog duty when they get too cold. Monika and Sebastian brought Monikas sweet mom to hangout with Koda in the warm car white we were exploring around.

  8. Plan Car Warm up Breaks

This is a great way to do a quick warm up. If there are multiple locations involved this will naturally happen. Safety of my couples (and their pups) are my highest priority. I want this to be fun, not dreaded from the cold!

What to Expect During Your White Mountain Winter Engagement Session

Winter sessions are all about adventure. Whether it’s exploring hidden trails, dancing on a frozen lake, or throwing snowballs, the possibilities are endless. The unpredictable nature of winter—snow flurries, dramatic skies, and sparkling ice—adds a touch of spontaneity and magic to every shot.
