The first blush of dawn spilling over the White Mountains, casting a golden glow on the rugged peaks. The crisp air fills your lungs as your boots crunch over the well-worn trail. This is where adventure meets romance—an elopement on Mount Moosilauke, a place where love and the great outdoors come together in perfectly.
For this outdoorsy couple, their wedding day was less about creating a show for their guests and more about authenticity. Both avid trail runners, they chose to slow down, savor the moment, and hike to the summit of Mount Moosilauke to exchange their vows at sunrise. And let me tell you—it was nothing short of breathtaking.
A Sunrise Hike to Remember Eloping on Mount Moosilauke
Their day started in the deep quiet of early morning, headlamps guiding the way as they ascended the trail under a canopy of stars. The hike up wasn’t a race, but a shared journey—every step was one step closer to their forever future together. By the time they reached the summit, the sky was starting to blush with hues of pink and orange. They paused, hand in hand, watching as the world woke up around them.
A Private First Look & Vow Exchange on a 4000 footer
At the summit, with the wind gently tousling their hair and the horizon stretching endlessly before them, they shared a quiet first look. It was the kind of moment that didn’t need an audience—just the mountains and their love as witnesses. Then, as the sun broke over the peaks, they exchanged heartfelt vows. There was something profoundly intimate about their words carried through the breeze, surrounded by nothing but the vast, wild beauty of the White Mountains. Not another sole in sight.
Coffee, PB&Js, and Post-Vow Bliss: An Intimate Mount Moosilauke Moment
After their vows, they celebrated in the best way possible: by brewing fresh coffee right there on the summit. The aroma mingled with the alpine air, a simple yet perfect toast to their new chapter. And what’s a mountain-top breakfast without peanut butter and jelly sandwiches? Am I right!? They shared their favorite trail snack—a nod to countless adventures they’ve had and all the ones still to come. (Shout out to @pbandsummit)

Tips for Planning Your Elopement in The Mountains
Do what feels right to you and something you already love doing together! If you normally get joy and connect on a longer hike then this could be for you. If you enjoy hiking but don't necessarily want to hike a long trail on your day, then don't. There are plenty of stunning shorter hikes if this is you. Do what makes you happy!
Do your research on the trails that you might want to start your forever future on. Make sure they're within what you're comfort and level of hiking, know how busy they get, where to park, how long the trail is, trail conditions, elevation gain, if there are multiple trails to the summit etc... (If you're booking with me, I do all this for you and give you all the details of the trails I recommend!) - Hey, I'm always here to make it easy for you! – Talk to me here!
In contrary to the above (still do your research) buuuut sometimes its fun to NOT go to the hike you plan to for your wedding day and keep it a surprise. This makes your day a little more special and I always recommend it when possible.
My favorite tip – Plan for sunrise or sunset. They not only give you a stunning glow but generally the mountains are less crowded at these times too. It's a win, win!
Consider the weather/season. If you hate the summer, sweat easily, and don't like being hot, don't plan a hiking elopement in July-August. If you're a sucker for the stunning fall foliage, plan for Sept/Oct.
Wear and pack the right gear. I always recommend packing as if you were going on this hike normally with plenty of food, water, layers, and then add in all the extras. Of course wear hiking boots or a good sneaker and comfortable hiking clothes.
